Where did pi come from? Well, you humans are a curious species. Perhaps one of your distant ancestors noticed that as a wheel made a full rotation, the length of its imprint was roughly three times its diameter. Mesopotamians invented the wheel in 3500 BCE, but it's generally recognized that many human cultures recognized the mathematical relationship called pi.
